About the joints

In the anatomy a joint is called an articulation (or junction) of two or more bones. With the mammals the junction are usually divided into three groups:

  • synartroses — immobile (fixed)
  • amfiartroses (half-joints) — partially movable;
  • diartroses (true joints) — movable.

The majority of the joints apply to junctions.
